2/5/10 – London to Brighton

London to Brighton
Historic Commercial Run
2/5/10

We only occasionally take part in this annual prestigious event owing to the distance to the early start – never mind a long run home in the dark. But we took the plunge and did it in 2010 and here are some pictures from the day.

The Mayor was probably not particularly amused at the early and wet start at Crystal Palace.

Some of the lorries at Brighton. Nearest the camera is London Brick Company 680 GTM, a 1960 AEC Mercury lorry.

More lorries, the nearest being Bedford 5-ton S-type 375 TMF.

RF433 is parked alongside RF539 and other London vehicles on the front at Brighton.

SHN 301 is, interestingly, an AEC Regal MkIV (just like our RFs!) but with Burlingham coach bodywork. Its origins are with Scotts Greys of Darlington and was new in 1953 with their fleet number 3. Could this firm have really been named after a breed of Scottish chicken?

Other vehicles on display at Brighton. There are too many to list in detail but nearest the camera is Portsmouth 100 (LRV 992), a 1956 Leyland PD2/12 Titan with Metropolitan Cammell bodywork later converted to open-top configuration for seafront services.
